Screen Writing

Screenwriting is a workshop class that introduces students to the fundamentals of screenwriting craft—including script format, dialogue, characterization, visual storytelling, plot, conflict, and structure. One of the main goals of this course will be to instill a sense of scene—what it’s made of, what it should do, etc. We will watch full-length films as well as excerpts from films, and we will read full screenplays as well as excerpts. We will also read some craft essays and worksheets. Over the course of the semester, students will develop an idea for, plan out, and then write a twenty-five-page script. We will workshop these ideas, structures, and final scripts in class. Students will complete a revision of their twenty-five-page screenplays as the final assignment for the class.
