This homeroom will focus on Marine Science. We'll start with a survey of the major marine habitats, focusing on how marine organisms meet the physical, chemical, and biological challenges of each habitat. For example, we might virtually explore coral reefs, ice oceans, and deep-sea vents. After an introduction to the characteristics and creatures of each habitat, students will find relevant resources and share with the group. We'll create a running document with all of our resources that students will have access to at any time. Depending on the interests of the students who join, we might also explore what goes into creating, assessing, and maintaining Marine Protected Areas (types of reserves), or look into open data sets and how they could be used to answer relevant research questions, which students could then use to further develop their interests.
