Spanish - Literature, Film, and Culture

Students engage in an in-depth study of literature, film, and other cultural products from across the Spanish-speaking world, with attention to specific regions, historical periods, or thematic approaches. They analyze literary and audiovisual works across genres, examining topics such as identity, cultural expression, and the dynamics of power and resistance. Class time centers on discussion, collaboration, and the application of analytical strategies, as students investigate representations of cultural and gender diversity, explore historical and contemporary contexts and their significance, and interrogate how selected works reflect and challenge social, political, and cultural dynamics. Language proficiency in all modes of communication is strengthened through oral presentations, research projects, written reflections, and interpretive and interpersonal tasks.
