About Me
Hello! My name is Jillian, and this is my fifth full-time year at Stanford Online High School. I live in Los Angeles, CA, about a mile from the beach. I love studying Equine Science, Biology, and English, and I have a passion for reading. I have been dancing both classical ballet and contemporary jazz since I was two years old, and Stanford OHS has greatly expanded my ability to balance my practices and competitions, while also staying engaged with my community and growing academically. In my spare time, I love barrel racing and just about anything to do with horses! I plan to go to college to major in Animal Studies, particularly Equine Science.
Why I Chose Stanford OHS
I chose to attend Stanford OHS to gain greater access to advanced courses that are not available at my local schools, find a community of students who are genuinely passionate about learning, and utilize Stanford OHS’s college-like schedule to balance my dance schedule with my academics. I am certain that other schools (both online and brick-and-mortar) would not have allowed me to grow as much as Stanford OHS has in five years. Stanford OHS’s schedule has also allowed me to continue to pursue competitive dance, horseback riding, and tennis lessons simultaneously. It is easier for me to balance my schedule when I can complete my schoolwork in the morning, and then attend dance practices and other activities in the afternoons and evenings.
What I Love About Stanford OHS
I love that every Stanford OHS student is so helpful and is genuinely passionate about learning and personal growth. The academics at Stanford OHS surpass what is available at any of my local schools, and it’s incredible how everyone creates such a caring community. At Stanford OHS, you know that you can always ask someone for help and no one will ridicule you; in fact, they encourage it. I also appreciate how experienced the instructors are and that they genuinely want you to learn as much as possible in their classes. I always enjoy talking with them during office hours too. One of my favorite aspects of Stanford OHS is the in-person events, because they provide a great way to hang out with friends from all over the country.
