Before joining Stanford OHS, Dr. Mare was an Adjunct Professor at the University of San Francisco. He completed his Ph.D. in Philosophy at the University of South Florida in Tampa in 2016. Dr. Mare holds a B.A. degree from his native Romania, as well as an M.A. degree from the Sorbonne and graduate research certificate from Scuola Normale, Italy.
For more than a decade, Dr. Mare has been designing and teaching a wide variety of introductory and upper-level courses in logic, modern political philosophy, philosophy of science, and ethics, both in-person and online, at Stanford OHS, USF CA, USF FL, and elsewhere. His areas of publication and interest include the history of philosophy and science writ large (whether in ancient, medieval, or modern times) and philosophy as a way of life.
When he isn’t teaching and researching, Dr. Mare likes traveling abroad, hiking in the East Bay, and watching films with his significant other. Reading and collecting good books, and trying diverse restaurants are also among his personal favorites.
