About Me

Hi, my name is Torah, I’m a full-time 10th grader, and this is my third year at Stanford OHS. I currently lead the Philology and Etymology Society, and serve as my class’s Student Representative.

Outside of school, I’ve been a dancer for 13 years and also play volleyball. One of my biggest passions is medicine and research, which I hope to study in the future. I volunteer at my local hospital, where I help make quilts for patients with dementia, and I really enjoy being able to combine creativity with service.

Some of my hobbies include digital design, video editing, sketching, fashion, and music. I love finding new ways to be creative, whether it’s through art, performance, or design.

Why I Chose Stanford OHS

Before Stanford OHS, I was doing online school. Going into high school, I knew I couldn’t switch to a normal brick-and-mortar school because of my schedule and commitments outside of academics. I chose Stanford OHS because it gives the most high school-like experience of any online program, while still pushing far beyond the levels of a typical school.

The rigor of the classes immediately stood out to me. The discussions aren’t just about getting the “right” answer, they’re about asking deeper questions, thinking critically, and really engaging with the material. Specifically in the Stanford OHS only curriculum, including Core classes that teach this way of thinking. That was something I didn’t find in other online programs.

Another big reason I chose Stanford OHS was the community. Even though we’re online, the instructors and students are highly engaged and supportive. Between clubs, leadership opportunities, and social events, there are so many ways to connect and be involved, which makes Stanford OHS feel like a true school community rather than just a set of classes.

Now as a full-time student, I feel like Stanford OHS gives me the flexibility I need while also preparing me for college and beyond with its academic rigor and strong community.

What I Love About Stanford OHS

The most unique thing about Stanford OHS is the academic rigor. Even though we are a fully online school, our classes go far beyond what I’ve seen at a normal level. The discussions are in-depth, the workload is challenging in a good way, and you’re constantly pushed to think critically and connect ideas. I feel like I’m actually learning how to learn, not just checking off assignments.

Another thing I love about Stanford OHS is the community. The instructors  are passionate and supportive, always willing to help during office hours or in class. The students are just as engaged, and it feels like everyone is excited to be here and grow together. Between clubs, social events, and even in-person meetups, it’s easy to find your place and build connections.

Overall, Stanford OHS is unique because it combines top-level academics with a community that is welcoming and inspiring, which makes the whole experience special.
